Thoughts of the Book Hoarder

March 3, 2020

Happening in the Hoarder Life

1. Graduating College (one undergraduate & one master's degree)
2. One moving to a graduate degree program
3. House Buying & Moving
4. STUDYING
5. Webnovels
6. Anime

So, we Hoarders are finally getting everything back on track, because it has been one bumpy year. It seems that the hands of the clock just slipped away without notice, but though this is the case we Hoarders are always looking forward to spring.

The Thrush by Edward Thomas

When Winter's ahead,

What can you read in November

That you read in April
When Winter's dead?

I hear the thrush, and I see
Him alone at the end of the lane
Near the bare poplar's tip,
Singing continuously.

Is it more that you know
Than that, even as in April,
So in November,
Winter is gone that must go?

Or is all your lore
Not to call November November,
And April April,
And Winter Winter—no more?

But I know the months all,
And their sweet names, April,
May and June and October,
As you call and call

I must remember
What died into April
And consider what will be born
Of a fair November;

And April I love for what
It was born of, and November
For what it will die in,
What they are and what they are not,

While you love what is kind,
What you can sing in
And love and forget in
All that's ahead and behind.

Needed something to brighten my morning and saw this on the twitter feed. Living my best life right now!  Have a happy day everyone!

July 13, 2018              Friday the 13th

If some folks really believe that this day really brings bad luck ... what can I say about the personal beliefs of others but for those who are curious History has a pretty good write-up about this day.  Things like good or bad luck seems to hinge on an individual's fate and not the sun's setting then rising on a new day.

Harbinger Of Fate by David Harris

In the roads we travel,
our destination is always
a tiny speck on the horizon
where it meets the greeting dawn.
Many of the roads we travel down
a harbinger of fate waits for us there
to change our destiny
from the one we have chosen.
They stand a hitchhiker
along the lonely miles
waiting for us to stop
to give them a lift.
Stopping will be our fate decided
before our destination met.

Well, tomorrow is Friday the 13th, a special yet spooky day for many.  According the Wikipedia, Friday the 13th is considered an unlucky day in Western superstition. It occurs when the 13th day of the month in the Gregorian calendar falls on a Friday, which happens at least once every year but can occur up to three times in the same year. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friday_the_13th)

This Hoarder is not too sure about the bad luck associated with this day but it does remind me of Jason from Friday the 13th, which maybe a given.

Otherwise, some thought will have to be put into all of the silly things that is considered bad luck.

Just a little FYI, we Book Hoarders like a lot of different things and just to share a bit the end of 2017 was a little tough. But we're human (at least some of the time), we adjust and move on.  So, in the spirit of moving, here is a little K-Pop to wiggle to.

Shinee - Good Evening

HAPPY FRIDAY and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Its hard to believe it is the last Friday of January of a new year.  Well, its just proof that time waits for no man and it does not matter if an individual desires for time to speed up or slow down.  Time is one of those things ... concepts that is both fair and unfair at the same time.  Which ever it is all depends on personal prospective.

Time Is by Henry Van Dyke

Time is
Too Slow for those who Wait,
Too Swift for those who Fear,
Too Long for those who Grieve,
Too Short for those who Rejoice;
But for those who Love,
Time is not.

Now, my personal opinion concerning Time is that I am happy to be along for the ride.

The day of the GREAT TURKEY is behind us and Christmas is approaching quickly. I know that we are all overloaded with trying to get a lot of stuff down before the close of the year.  I find it amazing that the end of the year is here already.  This year seemed like a giant PUFF ... here one minute and now it is almost gone.  Not complaining because I am feeling blessed to be here to experience it.

I am excited for the holiday break.  Most of it will be spent face-down with my backside sky high asleep.  Yep, missed a lot of sleep this year.  Mostly, I will be doing what I do best.  I will be nose deep in my books and I do not mean academic reading.  ABSOLUTELY NO ACADEMIC READING! The other thing will be catching up on my movies.  Two I am excited to go to the theaters to see is Illumination Entertainment's Sing.

This movie seems like it is going to be just what the doctor ordered.  Laughs, great music and an uplifting storyline.

Next, will be Lucusfilm's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story:  Love Stars Wars  anything!  I mean, who hasn't tried the Jedi Mind Trick on someone.  This new entry looks so exciting; I am practically screaming for Christmas break to get here.

The cast in this entry of the Star Wars franchise look really strong, but I have to sing the praise (and I mean S.I.N.G.) for on of the cast members.  I will be having major FANGIRL moments for Mr. Donnie Yen (playing Chirrut Imwe).  For those who are unfamiliar with this actor would seriously need to take the time to get to know him.

He is so talented and a master at what he does.  One of my favorite movies that he has starred in is SPL Killzone starring another Martial Arts veteran Sammo Hung.  The sequence below kind of explains it all.

To Everyone a safe and happy Holiday season!

Hoarder Question of the Day

Are we over sexed?

Well, are we?  This Book Hoarder (as of late) been reading a lot of Contemporary/New Adult romance and many times I really believe the stories are over sexed.  Then at other times I think there isn't enough.  A bit wishy-washy right?  Not exactly.  Picture This (will never get enough Sophia Petrillo) you're reading the latest entry from one of your favs and you don't even make it to page 100 and the couple(s) are humping one another's brains out.  At this point, the story just descends into chapter after chapter ... after flippin' chapter of HUMPAMANIA.  By now the story is lost and as a reader I am no longer that interested because the hero's ding-dong has been described so many times that the darn thing chases me in my sleep. Just imagine a ding-dong in puffy white cartoon shoes chasing you about ... not fun.

Then on the flip-side there are the authors who tease the hell out of their readers.  The storyline promises pants and shirt ripping but then the reader is left with smoldering looks.   One good thing about these entries is that the storyline is never lost.  The reader just ends up super duper frustrated from being smized to death.

The way the books are being written now smoldering looks and coyness can only work for the first 100 pages .  After that the reader is really looking for the looks to develop into something else.

Then why am I griping?

I've been coming across too many authors sacrificing the story in order to body slam the reader at HUMPAMANIA.  When this happens the story becomes a session of watching paint dry and that's not fun.

October 19, 2016

Now, that I'm an adult (at least on some days) one of my favorite reading subjects are werewolves or just weres (please keep in mind I'm kind of a were-snob and not all fictional were beasts are created equally.  Especially, the Wormtails of the fictional worlds).  To most this is a big SO WHAT and that's fine ... it is what it is but when I was a kid I was terrified of anything paranormal.  I mean hide and sleep under the covers scared.  I blame it on my mom for letting a bunch of 5, 6 and 7 year olds sit up the watch the Exorcist but that's another story.  How did I go from running away from things like the Howling to looking for my male leads to be big, gruff and hairy?  I don't really know the tipping point but for those of you who are of the opinion that you grow out of it.  Well, I still don't do horror movies.  So, no Screams or Grudges for me.

The Howling - 1981

Bad Moon - 1996

One thing that I can pinpoint is that authors changed it up a bit and some started to take the creep factor out of reading about the supernatural.  Like all things, the book world is subject to trends and fads.  Lets face it, there were a couple of very noteworthy successes and the market just flooded with the good, the bad and the OMG WTF!  At least, with the rise of Paranormal Romance, Urban Fantasy and the broadening of Science Fiction some of the things that used to creep me out aren't so creepy anymore.

So, I cheer for the return of Teen Wolf and mourn the loss of Bitten.

Teen Wolf - 2016

Bitten  - 2016

In the end, to everyone Happy Reading!

September 8, 2016

So, its been awhile and what been on my mind is the new Harry Potter.  For those who have been living under a rock or just don't care about anything Harry Potter ... I'm sorry but I am going to rant a little bit.

First, I have to set the scene.  Picture it (my props to writers of the Golden Girls & Estelle Getty for her portrayal of Sofia Petrillo) I walk into my local Target store and I spot an entire display of the Cursed Child.  I do the high pitched girl thing and take off across the entry to get my hands on this book.  I'm excited darn it because its Harry flippin' Potter and the bugger is back.  If there were old ladies in my way I would have pitched them over my shoulder.  Look, I had to have my fix.  Then ... oh then I get my hands on it, open it up and start to read it right there in the store.  Then ... I don't know ... words jump up and smack me in the face because I can't feel the Potter and I'm not being drawn in.  I'm there in the front of the store looking around trying to see if anyone else is feeling what I'm feeling.  Nope, there isn't a soul around me and I wonder if I can get away with a temper tantrum right there.  To conclude this silliness, I put the book back on it's display and stomp out of the store.

Have my nostalgic feelings about Harry Potter been changed?  Well, no they haven't but I miss that old time feeling associated with the books.

August 11, 2016

Its August, its hot and very, very humid. Not complaining ... just stating a fact. Trying to figure out what to read next is sometimes a hard thing to do.  A lot of the time I believe what we read is based on mood.  So, I believe today's mood is centered on Poe and the beauty and flow of his words. Tomorrow's mood may take me in another direction but today I feel like sharing a little Edgar with you.  As always, from this Book Hoarder to you ... HAPPY READING!

Edgar Allan Poe's A Dream Within A Dream

Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow-
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand-
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep- while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?

When it comes to Paranormal Romance (PNR) I land more often in the shifterverse - wereverse.  The place in PNR where regular people have the ability to turn into some miraculous creatures and find love and adventure in the process. Sometimes, I have to be cautious that I'm not turning into a shifter - were snob.  I remember one story I started to read where the male lead was a werewolf and his love interest was a were-otter.  The story was good but I just couldn't wrap my head around how that was going to work out.  I mean ... I had little wotters floating in my head.  Would be interesting to know if there are stories out there with were-rabbits, moles, chipmunks, squirrels or even were-beetles and roaches. I guess it all comes down to believability.  So, to the authors out there that can make Wotters the baddest were-beast of all.  This Book Hoarder says "Thank you".

July 19, 2016

I've always loved a full moon.  As a kid I loved going out the nights of the full moon.  Especially, if I got to ride in the car because I was convinced that the moon was following us.  Now, tonight the moon will be full and I no longer believe that it will be following me.  I do relish the idea of sitting on my porch, watching fireflies and just taking in a cool summer's night back-lit by the moon.

So, in the still of this evening, I will be looking up at tonights moon praying for blessings to come your way.

Love is key to living a happy life. Not just receiving love but loving others is just as important.

June 14, 2016

Happy Flag Day!

We live in such a great country where with ambition, drive and a few blessings a person can achieve just about anything.  Limited dreams be damned because any individual can achieve the full spectrum of what life has to offer.  Unless, its love.  It seems as a unit (as citizens, as people, as humans) we are unable to love without bias.  To love without bias means that sexual, racial and gender differences don't matter because love doesn't contain any of these ingredients.  Love is just Love.

So, enjoy the day and love much!

OK, my Kindle just died and now I am waiting in limbo for it to recharge.  Freaking out and can't concentrate ... that's me.  I need the words to make my day go smoothly.

HAPPY FRIDAY LOVELY PEOPLE!

SPBH Thought of the Day
Admire the author who can turn the overdone into something fresh and new.  Like they're doing some sort of Jedi Mind Trick with "these aren't the werewolves you're looking for."  So yeah, admire the talented SOB that can do that.

June 2, 2016
There are some really good Indie authors putting their work out on the market.  Now, it is really hard to choose between the mainstream author and the indie author.  I am grateful for all authors who put pen to paper or finger to keys in an effort to create worlds that will draw me away from my everyday routine.  So, here's to my Word Warriors who help to keep my imaginary friends ever present between the pages.

June 1, 2016
Happy June Everyone!!!!

I've been working on SPBH blog trying to improve and make it better.  So, you may see some things moved around or deleted.  Just trying to see what works.

When I first started book blogging I thought that it would be a piece of cake, that I could use another passion of mine (which is reading) as a way to get my thoughts out there.  Book blogging is hard work.  Enjoyable work because I get to read.  As I go along I am learning so much and what I learn I get to share with those who view or follow me.  So thank you for reading.

Best SPBH Thought of the Day
